My First Week on Tirzepatide (Zepbound): What I Actually Noticed

It’s early, and nothing is indicative of what’s going to happen down the road, but getting started can feel both hopeful and scary. So here’s my honest observation from week 1.
Week One Takeaways (lowest dose)
1. I Lost 5 Pounds
The scale dropped about five pounds in the first week.
We’re likely not talking about fat loss. It's probably a mix of reduced bloating, inflammation, and water weight. But considering I spent the entire month of January ‘back on track’ and couldn’t take that weight off, this was EXCITING.
Everyone’s experience is different, but I wanted to share what I personally noticed right away.
2. I Feel Full, but Normal about Food
I was nervous about feeling overly stuffed or unable to eat. That isn’t what I wanted from this.
Remember, I only want to stop thinking about food all the time.
So yay, feeling uncomfortable or having zero appetite has not been my experience.
I still want meals. I still enjoy eating. I just feel satisfied sooner, without the mental tug-of-war, and I’m able to go without snacking, without feeling like I’m purposely depriving myself. There was one day when I wanted a snack bag of potato chips, so I had them.
But most days, I haven’t even thought about snacking, so I just didn’t. BAM, that right there is a gift. And probably saving me 600 calories a day in junk I don’t need.
3. The Food Noise Quieted Down (The Biggest Win)
This has been the most exciting part for me. The food noise is actually quieter.
I’m not constantly thinking about calories and if I’ll go over that day.
I’m not wandering into the kitchen just to open the fridge or pantry out of habit.
It feels like my brain has more space.
Now, when I purposely go to get food, I do still gravitate towards something sweet. I’ve eaten a few Dove chocolates, a handful of marshmallows, or a cookie - but then I was pretty much done. I didn’t go back for cheese, or popcorn, or chips 20 minutes later.
Day 7 feels noisier, but I'm still full, so when I ate my lunch of Bare nuggets and a rice krispie treat and still wanted more in my head, my belly said, "No, thank you."
4. A Weird Bonus: A decrease in itching
This one is unexpected, and I don’t even know if it’s related.
For a few years, I’ve dealt with neuropathic itching on my back and legs. My dermatologist had basically said, “yeah sorry, we can’t do much for that. It’s nerve-related.” So that’s fun.
This week, I realized I barely scratched at all.
It may be a coincidence. But it was noticeable enough that I wrote it down. A lot of times I do it out of boredom, so is the medicine quieting this noise in the same way? Because that would be AWESOME!
Final Thoughts After Week One: Relief
It’s early. But after one week, what I feel most is… relief.
Relief that food feels quieter (because I was real skeptical!)
Relief that my body may respond differently with the right support.
Relief that this doesn’t feel like another round of white-knuckling my way through tracking and willpower.
I'll also mention that I experienced almost no side effects. No nausea at all, no upset stomach, and I was able to go poo after just 2 days.
I’ll keep sharing honestly as I go. I’m sharing daily check-ins for the first 30 days over on TikTok + Instagram. I’d love for you to follow along.
